Maybelline Fit Me! Dewy + Smooth Foundation & Master Prime Hydrate + Smooth

I received both products in this post complimentary in a Voxbox to try them out for Influenster and Maybelline. Writing a blog with my elaborate opinion is not mandatory to ‘complete’ the campaign though, it’s just what I like to do most! All the opinion on both products are my own and not in any way influenced by the fact that I got these products for free.

Taking my time to sign up for Influenster has been a really good idea so far because I just received my forth Voxbox (box with complimentary products to try out)! The first was the Rosy Voxbox with random products, the second one has yet to be blogged about on Weeks of Beauty but it was an Origins box (very exciting though!), the third was not so long ago and was the L’Oreal Lumi Glow Voxbox and this time it’s the Maybelline #FitMeDewy Voxbox!

The box consists of the Maybelline Fit Me! Dewy + Smooth foundation (for normal to dry skin) and the Master Prime Hydrate + Smooth primer.

I usually don’t like foundation because I hate how it feels on my skin, but I am always open to trying out new foundations (whether it’s my choice or whether I was talked into it by a Sephora employee, haha). You never know when I’ll discover a foundation that’s feels nice on the skin, right?!

Let’s talk a bit about the primer first. A hydrating and smoothing primer is always something I want to try and use, because it’s so important for your skin to be hydrated very well  underneath your make-up.

I was a little worried about this primer though, because I read a lot of reviews by people with oily or mixed skin (like me) that this primer made the skin way too ‘wet’, making other make-up products move around and making the skin really oily.

The Master Prime 050 Hydrate + Smooth primer is white and basically feels like a watery and thin moisturizer. On my hand it did make my skin shiny and a bit oily, so I was curious to see if the same would happen on my face.

The primer feels amazing and really hydrating on my skin, which I really like. It kind of makes my skin feel fresh, like I threw some cold water on my face, haha! At first, the primer did make my skin oily and shiny but after a few minutes to sink it, it was melted into my skin, leaving my skin hydrated very well and a bit dewy. It just looked really healthy! I did not feel the primer being oily or watery on my skin anymore.

The primer is a success!

I received the Maybelline Dewy + Smooth foundation in the color 115 Ivory. 115 Ivory is the second to lightest shade of the 16 shades total. Sounds about right for my skintone!

Applying it on my hand first gave me a little heart attack because of how orange it looks. I know that you should test a color on your face but my face is actually lighter than my hand, so I was curious again about how it would look on my face.

Surprise, surprise. The foundation in 115 Ivory is a perfect match for my skintone! In this picture I am just wearing the foundation over the primer and I’m liking what I see.

So the foundation applies really easy, blends perfectly and almost melts together with the skin (I applied it with a damp RealTechniques sponge). I started with a little coverage and applied a bit extra on my cheeks and forehead. The foundation makes my whole skin look very smooth and even, hiding redness in my face and uneven skin, but you can still see the birthmarks in my face.

You can see on this picture that when it catches light, you can see how dewy and luminious the foundation is. From a distance, my skin looks beautiful. Up close though, I still see why I don’t like foundation: my face looks powdery. I guess it also depends on how you apply foundation and how it lays on your skin, but I just don’t like it.

To be clear: every EVERY foundation does this to my skin and also every concealer and powder. I guess it’s just what happens when I wear any make-up. For concealer and powder I’m okay with that because I can minimize it when I blend everything really well, but with foundation it just bothers me.
Add the fact that I don’t like the tacky feeling of foundation on my skin and you get the reason why I never ever wear foundation.

Having said this, I do like a lot how this foundation makes my skin look, compared to other foundations I’ve tried before! From a normal speaking distance, my skin looks really smooth, even and healthy glowing. Also, this foundation feels pretty allright on my skin because it basically ‘melts’ into my skin.

Another big plus: this foundation has SPF 18! It’s important to wear SPF on your face on a daily basis (which I always forget so therefore I carry it in my handbag at all times) so if you wear foundation often, it’s a good extra.

In my final look I did apply some mattifying setting powder under my eyes, on my chin and forehead to make sure those parts don’t turn oily during the day (even without foundation those parts get oily). I like the final look: glowing, radiant and dewy in the right spots!

So to conclude this review: I love how moisturizing the Maybelline Master Prime 050 Hydrate + Smooth is so I am totally going to use it more often!
And where I would usually give this foundation to a friend because I’m probably never wearing it again, I did decide to save this one. Because first of all I received it for free and it actually makes my skin look pretty and it’s the most comfortable I’ve ever tried so far. I’ll keep it for when I have a party and I would want to go all out or for when I’m ever having my picture taken!
