The last couple of weeks it has been pretty hot in Europe, including the Netherlands. With this hot summer weather I prefer to wear less make-up, because I’m going to sweat it of anyway! Usually I wear primer, concealer, powder, blush, highlighter and mascara on a daily basis. With the hot weather I didn’t feel like that so I took a step back to only wearing powder, the tiniest bit of highlighter and mascara and I’ve been loving that!
So recently I got into the less is more make-up vibes (hence the blog about the cool girl minimal brand Glossier) and I decided to give the Chanel Tinted Moisturizer a whirl for the glowy, no make-up look.
The tinted moisturizer relaunched (it was once LE) in the Les Beiges summer collection of 2018. I’ve seen people raving about it and people not spending to time on it because they weren’t that impressed.
The bottle is pretty small but luckily is still contains 30 ml (which is standard for a foundation). The beige bottle has a simple design which I always love in products: either simple or really over the top. The bottle is made of plastic and is light weight so it’s nice to throw in your bag.
Usually I’m alright with concealer and powder for the base, but with the warmer days when I’m not wearing concealer, I do miss some ‘filter’ and extra color on my face. A tinted moisturizer is the perfect answer for that, especially this one because it has SPF 30 and you may know that I’ve been on the hunt for a good moisturizer with SPF lately! I’ve never liked foundation so that’s not even an option, making this tinted moisturizer perfect for me!
When the products comes out of the tube it actually has a lot of color. But the product feels like a light moisturizer and after spreading it on the face, not much of the color shows up, not this intense.
It was hard to decide on my shade because my face is so much different in shade than my hands and arms. I had to pay an old skool visit to the store to decide my shade. Luckily the lady at Douglas (Sephora-ish store in the Netherlands) knew what she was doing and decided the shade by testing it on my cheek/jaw line down to my neck.
At first I was deciding between ‘Light’ and ‘Light Medium’ but the first one did not even came close to my shade (made me look pale) so we also tested out ‘Medium’, which turned out the be way to warm toned for me. Light Medium was the perfect fit!
The top two pictures is me with a bare face (apart from the mascara and little eyeshadow). In the bottom two pictures I’m wearing two thin layers of the moisturizer, applied with my fingers.
I focussed applying the products on my cheeks. I didn’t want too much on my forehead and chin because those area’s tend to get very oily during the day. I wanted to see what the product does first.
The product is, just like promised, very sheer. It has really light coverage and almost no color to it when blended in. With one layer, the product feels like just a moisturizer: light, hydrating and non sticky. It leaves a bit of sheen and gives me in total a more healthy look, but nothing noticeable if you wouldn’t know that I’m wearing the product.
With two layers the product has more of a blurring effect, fading the red around my nose, on my chin and on my cheeks. The healthy glow is more obvious but the color is still not noticeable. However, the second layers started to feel a bit tacky which I totally fine if you are used to foundation, but since that’s the reason I don’t like foundation, I still would use some powder to set it and get rid of the tackiness.
To wrap this review up: a huge plus of this tinted moisturizer is the smell! It has the same smell and the Hydra Beauty gel moisturizer which I love love love, so that’s very nice! It smells so fresh when you apply the product.
