You guys know that I love me a good subscription box. While in the USA last year, I subscribed a little while to the Sephora Play! box and I loved it. It’s the best one I’ve tried so far! Unfortunately they don’t ship it internationally but Sephora also launches separate boxes without a subscription which were available internationally as well.
There are three kinds of boxes now:
– Sephora Play! monthly subscription;
– Sephora Play! Luxe;
– Sephora Play! Smarts.
While in the USA I also got to try one of the Play! Luxe boxes: The Beauty Remedy. I loved how luxurious the brands and products were. I got to try out Tatcha for the first time and now I know why the brand is so popular!
A few months ago, when Sephora.com was still available for shopping to the Netherlands (there’s a hack for everything though, more on how I still get to shop at Sephora.com soon on Weeks of Beauty 😉 ), I ordered the Play! Smarts: Glitter Eyes for Real Life.
This Play! box got a really cool sequin make-up bag that’s a lot of fun but not so practical because the sequins might come off and end up everywhere.
This box contains 6 products in miniature size with a few really exciting products if you ask me!
Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Kitten Karma
I already own this one in a travel size version and I love it! This cute little size is perfect to try the product out. I gave it to a friend of mine.
Bite Beauty Prismatic Pearl Multistick in Rose Pearl
This is a multi use product. Can be used as a lipstick, blush (or more like a blush topper or highlighter because of the glitter) or eyeshadow stick.
The left swatch is from the Bite Beauty Multistick and the right swatch is Stila Kitten Karma.
I keep the Bite Beauty Multistick in my drawer for liquid eyeshadows & eyeshadow sticks because it’s not opaque enough to be a good covering lipstick. However, it is really really gorgeous as a lip topper on a dark matte liquid lipstick!!! If that’s your thing than I totally recommend this Multistick!
Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12 Hour Wear in Black
Sephora will forever and always be including this eye pencil. It’s a good pencil but I hardly use eye liners, so I’ll be passing this one on.
Benefit BADgal Bang Mascara
Already know that I love this mascara! You can read my review here.
Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Cream
My search for the perfect eye cream is still going on and so this product is one of the two main reasons I picked up this Play! Box. People have been so excited about this launch so I was curious to test it out for myself.
The jar is tiny but a little goes a long way. I use it in the AM and PM and I’m happy with it, though it’s still not THE eye cream I’ve been searching for. The gentle eye cream makes my under eyes feel hydrated and soft, but every so often I still have some good dark circles under my eyes and this eye cream is not going to get rid of that.
The fact that the cream is yellow-ish (hence the banana’s), makes the cream brightening. I am not completely sure if the cream usually brightens my under eyes, but I do feel like my skin looks more healthy overall, including the skin around my eyes.
I will keep on trying other eye creams but for now I’m perfectly happy with this one and I might repurchase it at some point.
GrandeLash MD Lash Enhancing Serum
To me, this product was the real hero of the set. A lash enhancing serum has been something I’ve been dying to try but I didn’t want to splurge on it too much. This GrandeLash serum is pretty expensive so it was the main reason for me to purchase this Play! Box. This product gives you a 6 week supply, just enough to experience if the serum does something for your lashes or not so it’s a good value.
However, I did not use this product just yet. I read some scary articles about how lash serum can change the color of your eyes. I don’t know if it’s true or fake news, but I do know that I want to research the product a lot better before I will start using it.
I wanted to compare these trial sizes featured in the Sephora Play! Smarts box to regular travel size products. The Bite Beauty Multistick is as good as the same as a travel size product, but the other products I have something to compare with, are a bit smaller.
That’s totally fine though because in general you still get a good value out of this box, but you do have to keep in mind that the products in the Play! Box are pretty tiny.
Did you ever try a Play! By Sephora box? Keep you eyes on Weeks of Beauty for more Play! Smarts boxes in the future!
