Most of us beauty lovers are well familiar with the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. It’s a long time favorite of many Youtubers. Everyone who knows me and Weeks of Beauty, knows that contouring and bronzer is not really my thing. I prefer to warm up my face with a good blush. For that reason I never tried out the Butter Bronzer but I was still really curious about Physicians Formula as a brand and the Butter formula. Luckily for me, the brand also has Butter Blushes and Butter Highlighters, so naturally I tried some of them out!
A couple of months ago I picked up the Butter Blush in Plum Rose (bottom left) and I enjoy it so much that I had my parents take home the Butter Highlighter in Pearl (bottom right) for me from their holiday in the USA. After enjoying using both of them, I recently picked up the Butter Blush in Natural Glow during a sale on a Dutch webshop.
The Butter Blushes come in a fun and summery but pretty bulky packaging. I prefer a flat compact for all my make-up but it’s okay, it’s just a detail. The packaging is this big because underneath the product there’s a space with a mirror and applicator that’s made specifically for applying the Butter products. I don’t use the applicator though because I’d much rather just quickly apply and blend the product at the same time with a big fluffy blush brush.
Plum Rose (on the left) is well loved as you can see. The shade is described as a soft, dusty pink plum (description by Temptalia). It looks grey and weird on the picture, but it’s actually my favorite blush color ever and so flattering!
Natural Glow (on the right) is more of a radiant blush. The shade is described as a light, golden peach with a pearly sheen (description by Temptalia). The shade is more bright than Plum Rose and on my skin tone I could pull it off as a highlighter.
I love both shades. Plum Rose for when I want to warm my face up with a natural looking blush and Natural Glow for when I want to brighten my face up with the most subtle bit of blush.
Both blushes have the famous Butter range scent: vanilla with coconut. The first time I used the products the scent almost was too much for me, but now I am used to the scent and I actually love it. It makes me think of summer!
The Physicians Formula Butter Highlighters come in a different compact because the formula of the product is different from the bronzers and blushes. The highlighter is way more creamy and almost a bit jelly like. It is very similar (if not basically the same) to the formula of the Colourpop Super Shock Cheek highlighters. Creamy and kind of wet feeling. The packaging has to be closed very well to prevent the product from drying out. That explains the screw on lid instead of the usual click compact like the blushes and bronzers.
The highlighter also has a bit of the Butter product scent but less strong and more vanilla than coconut.
The shade Pearl used to be the only shade of the Butter Highlighters that I was able to pull of. The other shades are gorgeous as well but are too deep for my fair skin tone. Recently I found out that they also launched the shade Iridescence which is a light lavender shade. I might ask someone to take it home for me from the USA :).
On the left I am wearing the Butter Blush in Plum Rose (best blush shade for my skin tone every) and on the right I am wearing (a generous layer) of the Butter Highlighter in Pearl. Because of how creamy it is, it gives the most amazing and intens wet look. When I wear the highlighter for regular day of work I do go very light handed with it :).
On these pictures I am wearing the Butter Highlighter in Natural Glow. On the left you can see how it doesn’t give much color but it does warm the face up and gives it a warm sheen. In the right picture you can see how much glow the product actually gives when the sun hits the product. I might add it to the highlighter drawer instead of the blush drawer, haha!
