You guys, this is the last day of Blogmas 2018 and the last day of the year 2018 as well! I can’t believe the year went by so fast. For my this year was all about investing time in myself for better health (taking time to unwind, eating healthier and working out more), about figuring out what my next ‘big step in life’ was going to be after graduating university and returning from the USA and eventually about taking the first step in my career with a full time job! It was a wonderful year and I can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store for me.
I hope each and every one of you will have a wonderful NYE and will have an even more wonderful 2019! Thank you for reading and following Weeks of Beauty. Cheers to 2019!
Now let’s take a look at my favorite make up items that I’ve been loving in 2018! I’ve discovered a lot of new gems from which a couple also ended up in my favorites. But my favorites also consist of a few products that I’ve known over a year.
This is the complete selection! For some categories it was easy to pick just one, but for others I just had to pick a couple of winners.
In 2018 I’ve tried quite some concealers, loose finishing/setting powders and primers. 2018 really was the year of complexion perfection. I absolutely hated the scent of Charlotte Tilbury’s Genius Magic Powder but I have been loving the Magic Away concealer. I am close to running out and I’ll be picking up a new one for sure. I just love how radiant and subtle the concealer is.
For days that I want a little more coverage, I have been loving the Revolution Conceal & Define concealer in C3. It’s not expensive, suits my fair and cool skin tone very well, gives great coverage and blends perfectly.
I don’t often wear primer but when I do it’s either Benefit Porefessional (Pearl) or when I want to go for a radiant complexion it’s Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow face primer. Benefit Professional is nice and it works, but the Wonder Glow face primer really stood out to me. It’s moisturizing, smells nice and it gives me the most gorgeous glow.
My favorite setting/finishing powder has been the MAC x Patrick Starrr Patricks Powder. It’s incredibly finely milled and it does not give my dry under eyes, which is really important for me. Also, the powder does not give me a powdery look and it has a slightly pink tone, which goes great with my cool skin tone.
Since I got it, I used the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Volume 4 almost every day. I use it to set my under eye concealer, for blush and for highlighter. It’s also perfect for traveling. I’m sure I’ll get lot of more use out of it in 2019.
Besides the Hourglass palette I loved the Physicians Formula Butter Blush in Plum Rose because it’s the perfect subtle mauve for me. I also used the Physicians Formula Butter Highlighter in Pearl a lot in a few of months of the year. I switched it up with the Wet N Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder in Blossom Glow. Such a gorgeous highlighter!
The last couple of months I’ve been switching between a lot of new highlighters though because 2018 brought us so many gorgeous ones. Curious to see which new highlighters make it into my 2019 favorites! 🙂
For eyeshadow I really couldn’t pick just one. These three palettes all made it into my favorites for different reasons.
The Kathleen Lights x Colourpop Dream St. palette was my absolute favorite in the fist half of the year. The shades are gorgeous and of good quality and this palette inspired me to be more creative with color.
For a quick and every day use I’ve been loving the Limited Edition Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk eyeshadow palette. It has four shades that I can throw on my eyes with my finger or just one brush and it looks great. The combination of the shades is soft and really makes my eye color stand out.
The eyeshadow palette I was most impressed by this year is the New Nude Palette by Huda Beauty. I’m so happy I decided to pick it up because wow it’s such a gorgeous palette! I’m still amazed by the great quality and the wonderful finishes. Especially the metallic shimmers. I can’t wait to make more looks with this in 2019!
For mascara’s I also couldn’t pick just one because what mascara I like really depends on my mood, the occasion and the complete look I’m going for.
For a simple day at work I have been loving the Glossier Lash Slick. I got into Glossier this year for the first time and I am curious to see what Glossier will launch in 2019. Not every Glossier is for me but the ones I do like are big hits!
A favorite for many years is the Maybelline New York the Colossal Volum’ Express Waterproof. This mascara just never disappoints me.
Last but not least is the mascara that I wish came with a smaller price tag: the Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes mascara. It makes my lashes so gorgeous and it’s perfect for when I want my make up to be flawless. I hope this little one lasts for a little while because I still have some other mascaras to test and use up before I can go and grab myself a new Charlotte Tilbury one.
Totally forgot to put the setting spray on the ‘group picture’!. The Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray has been my one and only favorite setting spray in 2018. I have been trying out some others but none of them could what this one can. I do always have a bottle of MAC Fix+ but that is to wet my brushes and sponges.
This setting spray really melts the powdery makeup all together, making it look almost natural and skin like. I am also convinced that I helps making my makeup last longer, even though the ‘melting together’ part is the most important for me.
For lips I choose the Charlotte Tilbury Superstar Lips in Wild Lips and Pillow Talk as my favorite as well as the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb in Fenty Glow.
The Charlotte Tilbury Superstar Lips have such a gorgeous finish, great pigmentation and comfortable formula. I have been testing out and loving lots of different lipsticks this year, but these two kept making it back into my bag.
You might know that I’m not the biggest fan of lip gloss. I hardly ever wore it. Until I discovered the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb. It’s such an amazing and comfortable formula that smells nice and gives an amazing glow. I love it so much and it is also moisturizing for the lips. Double win! I will definitely be picking up the white and pink shade with my next Sephora France order.
Last but not least there are two tools that I want to give a little shout out. I’ve been using the Shu Uemura lash curler every day since I’ve got it. It curls my lashes beautifully and this way I only need a little bit of mascara.
I have also been a fan of the Sephora Color Switch. With this you can swipe of the remaining product and color of your brushes before going into another color. Perfect for in between brush washes!
This is the look I made with a couple of the 2018 favorites! I used the Colourpop Dream St. palette, Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes mascara, Wet n Wild Megaglow highlighter in Blossom Glow, Physicians Formula blush and Charlotte Tilbury Superstar Lips in Wild Lips.
What are your favorite makeup products from 2018? Can’t wait to hear about them!
Have a great NYE and happy 2019! xoxo Tessa
