MAC x9 Kabuki Doll eyeshadow palette (Boom Boom Bloom collection)

The last couple of months, MAC became one of the brands that I didn’t care much about anymore when concerning their new launches. It was all nice but nothing special. I just liked other brands and their launches better. Until MAC came out with their Cherry Blossom inspired collection, the Boom Boom Bloom collection. Everything it that collection screams spring and is decorated with cherry blossom petals. I adore a cherry blossom in bloom and luckily, the eyeshadow palette in this collection is straight up my street as well.

The palette is a x 9 eye shadow pallete and is called the Kabuki Doll palette. How cute is this packaging, right?!

Not only is the packaging cute, the shades are also gorgeous. It is full of shades that I wear regularly. The only this I wish that would’ve been different are the two gold shimmer shades and the two matte brown shades. They are different enough to put both shades in a big palette but in a palette with only nine shades, I would’ve gone with a soft pink matte shade and an other shimmer shade instead (shimmer purple or something).

I never really tried the MAC x 9 eyeshadow palettes so I was pleasantly surprised when I swatches the shades. Both the mattes and the shimmers are creamy, pigmented well and are opaque.

The white/gold shade and the first gold shimmer from the left are more ‘crumbly’ because they have a bigger glitter in them. I did experience a little bit of fall out when applying it on the eyes but nothing extreme. The brown/purple matte shade is a little bit more dry than the other matte shades but it still performs great.

I created this look with the top matte shade a transition shade, the bottom matte shade (the purple/brown-ish one) in the outer corner, the shimmer gold in the lower left corner in the inner 2/3 of the eye lid and the pink/orange/brown shimmer in the outer third of the eye lids.

Even though this look is nothing original or special, I do really love how it came out. The eyeshadows are of great quality. They’re easy to apply, build-up and blend. The shimmers work best applied with a finger or with a brush and some Fix+. This way they give the perfect glow/brightness on the eyes. Even without a primer, the eyeshadows stay put the whole day. I did see a little creasing and fading on the eye lids, but everything stayed blended perfectly and the intensity of the colors and the shimmer did not fade.

In the picture I am also wearing the MAC Wagasa Twirl matte lipstick from the Boom Boom Bloom collection. A little to cool toned for this look but I do love the shade as well. Spring I’m ready for you! 🙂

So long story short: the MAC x 9 Kabuki Doll eyeshadow palette is of great quality, just not something special. I’d take a look first at your collection to see if you really need this palette or not, but if you do decide to grab it, it’s worth every penny!
