When the first pictures of the Electric Wonder Collection by MAC were revealed, I was jumping with joy because of how amazing the packaging looks. I grabbed the face palette (a face palette by MAC with their great blushes and recent amazing highlighter palettes, must be great, right?!) and one of the lipsticks.
The face palette, unfortunately, did not live up to its expectations for me. Let’s check it out!
Gorgeous packaging, great big mirror and a gorgeous shade selection with three highlighters, two blushed and one bronzer. The disappointment already started when I saw how ‘flat’ the shades look. Yes the shades are pretty but do I see anything special? Not at all.
When I swatched the products the first time to get a first impression of the quality, the disappointment got even bigger. All the products are very dry and it’s hard to pick up any pigmentation or glow. You can see in the picture above how the product looked like after I tried picking up some product. It’s visible that the product is pretty dry and pressed hard into the pan.
When I swatched the shades on my arm, I had mixed feeling. On the one hand the product is still dry and ‘hard’. When swatches, the product kind of crumbled and I had to smooth it out for the swatches. Yet you can still see that some shades have big crumbs of product in it.
On the other hand though, the shades are very pigmented when swatches and do have a nice glow. Nothing special but there is already more glow than what I expected from it when seeing the shades in the pans.
Here I mixed the two blushes together and the top two highlighters. I applied it lightly.
For this look I build up the product a lot to see how intense it could get.
For the highlighter I am very content with the glow it eventually gives, it’s blinding and gorgeous! The highlighters blend into the skin alright when blended enough. Still the highlighters are not the easiest to apply and not the prettiest so I won’t be wearing this shades much, even though they are nice.
The blushes on the other hand are of awful quality. Hardly any pigmentation transferred from the pan to the brush, let alone from the brush to the face. When applied and build up on the skin you can get some pigmentation to show up, but it is really hard to blend out nicely so it ‘lays’ funny on the skin.
I’d say this is the worst part of the blushes: do you see that line where the blush stops? I promise, I blended like my life depended on it! ;P I even tried blending the edges with some face powder but nothing worked.
So conclusion: do not pick up the MAC Ignite Wonder Face Palette. I usually love MAC products and I keep on grabbing the MAC Hyper Real Glow highlighter palette because it’s so gorgeous, but I can’t say the same about this Ignite Wonder Face Palette. It looks pretty but that’s it. Definitely not worth your money if you ask me!
What do you think of the MAC Electric Wonders collection? Did you pick anything up?
