Anastasia Beverly Hills – Norvina eyeshadow palette

Once upon a time I bought the Anastasia Beverly Hills Master Palette by Mario, but because the shades were relatively original for my make-up stash and I had no clue at all how to work creamy eyeshadow like the ABH ones, I sold the palette. My question to history me is: WHY?! Well, I know why, but it’s sooo sad, because it was such a special palette! Little did I know that there was going to be a time that I would know how to work those very creamy shadows. But well, the Master Palette by Mario is not coming back, so let’s give those ABH eyeshadow another try with the gorgeous Norvina palette!

Every beauty blogger/Youtuber and their neighbors have reviewed the palette already, I know. That doesn’t mean that I still want to give it a go because look at those gorgeous shimmery shades! I am obsessed with this whole color story with the purples and pinks and golds.

The top row is all shimmery shades and the bottom row is all matte shades. What I see right away is how the shimmery top row is full of bright shades which to me, is very important because I can’t really pull of the more dark/greyish shades.

The bottom row is a selection of both more dull/greyish shades and some brighter mattes like Base and Love. I am very curious to see though how they turn out on the face.

A little close up: I am loving Dreamer, Summer, Wild Child, Rose Gold and Celestial of the shimmers and Incense, Love and Eccentric of the mattes. Especially the mattes are all such special and original shades.

You won’t know creamy eyeshadows until you’ve swatches ABH shimmer shades. They are so creamy, almost slippery, pigmented incredible well and the shimmer is all over.

The mattes are also very creamy and insanely pigmented. Though, some tend to be a little bit chalky and need some extra love to be swatches smoothly. However, that is only a thing if you are looking to say at least something about the quality of the eyeshadows, because it’s only a little bit and other than that the eyeshadows are of real great quality.

I can already tell by these swatches that I am not going to like the shades that much because of how dull and darkish they are. In the pan Soul looked way more light than on this swatch. Same goes for Incense and Eccentric.

I love this look with just Volatile in the crease and Rose Gold on the eyelid. It’s a very easy yet classic look because Rose Gold does exactly what I hoped for: it makes my eyes bright and sparkle. The shade has a bright glow over it.

I also added a tiny bit of Wild Child in the inner corners as an inner corner highlight and I love the subtle but special effect it gives. For when I want to turn up the color in my look a bit.

For this look I used Soul in the crease, Eccentric in the outer corners and outer part of the crease, Celestial on the eyelids, Dazzling in the inner third of the eye lids and Dreamer in the inner corners.

The mattes apply very easily and blend together real nice. The shimmery shades only apply nicely with my fingers and they blend alright together. Because the shimmer is so dense and the pans are soft when I dip my finger in, I do get some fall out from the shimmers.

I am a bit disappointed by this look actually. The mattes show up a bit dark but that was clear from the swatches already. But I’m most disappointed about are Celestial and Dazzling. They are not that shimmery and bright at all and their color almost fades away. I am wearing a purple and gold eye looks that is supposed to bright and eye catching. These shimmers turn a bit dull when applied… too bad!

Another downside, but one that is very personal, is that I got irritated skin when I didn’t wear the shadow with a primer underneath. It may just have been the glitters in the shimmery shades annoying my skin a bit of course, but I am not really attracted to use the palette again.

I know there are lots and lots of people who adore the Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadow palettes and I am sure that there are a lot of fantastic palettes out there, but the Norvina palette does not live up to it’s hyped up expectations and it really just doesn’t work for me. Might be an unpopular opinion but I just had to share it, because somethings you’ve got yourself a perfect match with a new product and sometimes you don’t. Both are worth sharing!

Did you try the Norvina palette or another Anastasia Beverly Hills palette? What do you think? I am very curious to hear about your (good or bad) experiences with the palettes!
