Last weekend me and my friend Tamar got creative and took a go at the Met Gala Challenge! I had so much fun doing it, being creative with clothing, making jewelry from aluminium foil and going all out with make-up.
In case you’ve missed it: this year the Met Gala was postponed because of the COVID 19 measures. The people of the internet took it upon theirselves to have a fashion party anyway, and recreated their favorite Met Gala looks from the past years. Born was #metgalachallenge!
I decided to recreate this amazing look by Lili Reinhart from the 2019 Met Gala. The theme was Camp: Notes on Fashion and Lili rocked a Marie Antoinette inspired look.
And this is the look I created!
- My ‘dress’ is made of a bath robe (pinned and tucked away with clothespins) and a mattress cover for the train.
- My shoes are the only strappy heels that I own and they are black, so I wrapped them in aluminium foil.
- My necklace and earrings are both made of aluminium foil as well.
- For the headpiece I used 3 big pink paper orchids and 6 smaller purple paper orchids, all made by me!
The make-up look was not about many products, but mostly about the shape and shades of all the pink! In this picture you can also see my necklace close up. There’s so much you can do with aluminium foil, apparently :).
And here’s a closer look of the makeup. As you can see, it’s pretty easy in colors. One pink and one white on the eyes, one pink on the face and some highlighter. Very happy with how the eye look ended up, because I did needed some practice with blending it into the right shape and intensity.
On my eyes I used ‘Sandbar’ from the Colourpop Ooh Lala! eyeshadow palette and Ofra Pillow Talk highlighter for the inner corner highlight/inner third of the lid.
On the face I used ‘Poodle’ from the Colourpop palette as well, with a dense stippling brush because it really had to pop. It was basically blushing and contouring, both with a bright pink.
For highlighter I used the Wet ‘n Wild megaglo highlighting powder in ‘Botanic Dream’ and for the lips I used the Charlotte Tilbury lip cheat in Pillow Talk and added some Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi Shine Gloss Lip Lacquer in ‘Sugar High’.
And that’s all that I needed for this look! It was very nice to use these Colourpop shadows because they are so damn pigmented, smooth, and easy to blend.
I loved recreating a more editorial make-up look for once. I might do it more often :).
What Met Gala look would you recreate? Let me know!
